General Conference is a little under two weeks away. How lucky we are to be able to hear from the prophet again!
In the past, we've never done much in the way of preparation for our little ones to watch conference. But now that Lincoln and Daniel are a little older, it's probably time to put in a little bit of planning to help them get as much out of the experience as possible.
The Mormon Momma blog has a great post that is positively overflowing with great ideas to make Conference fun and meaningful for families. I think we'll be borrowing lots of their ideas: tents towards the temple, candy quiz, preparedness, and an autumn drive during the Saturday afternoon session. (and good food--can't forget the good food)
What about your family? Do you have any General Conference traditions?

I don't know if it's a good tradition or not, but we always worked on projects during conference...(usually involved quite a bit of help from mom, but kept us all in the same room watching and mostly silently working on whatever we had to occupy us) by projects I mean knitting/crocheting afghans, counted cross stitch, paint by number, loom weaving. Things that always took a little bit to get the kids started out on it, but then involved long hours of silent work on your own once you got the basics. Maybe we only started this tradition because my brother and I wanted to know what mom was doing. I'm not really sure but to this day I still have a host of conference projects I wish I could finish but there just hasn't been enough conferences lol. :) I still enjoy working on things during conference. keeps me awake at least.
other project ideas: boondoggle, braided rug, fake stained glass figures(walmart?) you paint them then let em dry then hang them in the window and they look like stained glass
problem is your boys are still quite young,.. might work for one of them but not both. conference treats bingo is usually a good hit. I was well into projects before we ever tried that out so it never peaked my interest. Those of us who weren't working on projects just had to sit there with the family and find a way to make it through without drawing too much attention to the fact that we were entertaining ourselves other ways. ;)
one other tradition we've started is going to grandma's to watch one of the sessions. helps to break up the atmosphere a little.
My kids like to draw pics. in their journals and then have me write what they want to say.
Conference is a great time to redo/rotate your 72 hour kits. We let you kids eat the food while watching conference. Do you remember the stale beef jerky, trail mix, gum, candy and top ramen washed down with juice boxes? yuck! It's a great way to test your stored food items for ease and palatability! Just make sure you have shopped beforehand for replacement items. It's also a great time to change the clothes out for the season (summer weight clothes at April conference and winter weight in October) and sizes because kids (and sometimes adults) grow like weeds! Don't forget new batteries for radios & flashlights each 6 months. That way they are always fresh...Also we use conference as a reminder to change out the smoke detector batteries (even hardwired detectors have battery backup).
Thanks for the link to that blog, I loved it. I had to laugh because we have conference ribs. I didn't think it was that common. :) We also do the tent, although this is the first conference Jordan will really be able to have fun with it. We built a tent once at Nana's house with Katey to watch conference in and she seemed to love it.
Anyway, thanks. Happy Conference!
I loved the food from our 72 hour kits. It was always enjoyable for me to eat all that, but I guess it was because I was like 5 and ate everything. I have a friend that has 4 brothers, so every conference they bring out the "Conference Lego's". The only time they bring out these Lego's is during conference. They have a big box filled with Lego's, and just lay sheets out on the floor. Even their parents play with the Lego's. You can have other Lego's, but the conference ones are ONLY for conference weekend.
