Happy Birthday, indeed

Penny Simkin and Me

I had a fabuluous birthday weekend everybody. Thanks to those of you who sent birthday wishes my way. I've always secretly believed that the tulips and fresh new leaves and blossoming trees that have always shown up around my birthday were Mother Nature's personal gift to me, and this year she did not dissappoint.

Other highlights:
  • I spent Friday and Saturday at a conference for childbirth professionals, and I got to meet Penny Simkin! That may not mean anything to you, but she's legendary in the natural childbirth world. She spoke on childbearing in social context and the emotional needs of women in labor (and how to meet those needs). If you ever have a large block of time to kill and want to philosophize about birth, call me and I'll tell you all about her speeches!
  • When I got home from the conference on Saturday, Joe had takeout from the Bombay House for dinner and what may turn out to be the best birthday present ever: my very own Sobakawa pillow (as seen on TV!!). I've been sleeping like a baby ever since.
  • My birthday card from the boys. Here's the text:

Dear Mom,

I hope you had a good birthday. Make sure to take lots of birthday
pictures. Happy Birthday. I'm gonna make you a chocolate cake. I love you.
You're extremely beautiful. Mom, I love you. Make sure to have fun every day.
Love you tons!
