Tonight as we were tucking the boys into their beds, Lincoln and Daniel decided that this was the best day ever. I heartily concur. It all started with a cheerful breakfast looking out over a lovely, warm, sunny morning. We saw happy little crocuses poking their heads up through the soil, and daffodil and hyacinth leaves reaching out to the sun.

And before we knew it, we had a kite "super-duper high up".

Jack couldn't take his eyes off of it. Don't be fooled by the solemn face; he was having a grand time.

Daniel declared it a blowsy day, so we found our kite and went to the park after lunch. The wind was perfect-- just strong enough that we didn't have to run to get the kite in the air. All it took was lifting it up. Like this:

And before we knew it, we had a kite "super-duper high up".

Jack couldn't take his eyes off of it. Don't be fooled by the solemn face; he was having a grand time.

After we'd been out for a while, heavy storm clouds gathered and the temperature dropped, so we headed home for a cozy read-a-thon. We put Jack down for a nap and made cookies and hot chocolate, lit candles in the fireplace, set up the play tents and snuggled down to read a couple of chapters from The Trumpet of the Swan. (this is about our 9th time through; can you tell it's our favorite book?).
Before we knew it, rain turned to snow and a couple of inches had accumulated. The boys pulled on their snow gear and went outside to make a snow dinosaur with some neighbor kids. We finished off the day with warm soup and fresh bread and hot baths for the littles.
After a couple of weeks of sick, crabby, housebound kids and a cranky and often impatient mom, this wonderful day was a Godsend. I just hope the memory of it doesn't fade too soon.

So sweet. I have the best nephews ever. Kisses.
It sounds like it was a great day! Did you get my email with my phone #? I think Monday would work. Or Tuesday if we want to wait the 24 hours to find out if they got illness from Sunday...But I can't wait to see you guys!
really? yesterday? I kinda feel glad I had some small part in it. :)
Love it. Makes me REALLY miss your cute little family, especially the read-a-thon.
Hey Steph, I got the Lemongrass from the former Albertsons. You just have to look. It looks like really thick pale green grass stocks.
Also, we loved this post. Made me wish Amy wanted to fly a kite. ;)
I happened to see you and your boys with their kites. It made me smile to see a mom having so much fun with her kids. Definitely a Kodak moment!
I was glad we got a little bit of kite flying in, too, before we got dumped on! But, even that's a blast for kids.
I love reading about your adventures! We miss Utah and this time of year there and that great neighborhood and area! And Trumpet of the Swan is my very favorite childhood book... we absolutely love it. Say hi to your sweet family... & if you ever want to take a trip to the desert... I'm sure there are some dinosaur bones down here to be found, come on down, we'd love it! :)
